Essunga sends a residents’ survey to selected children aged 7 to 17

Essunga Municipality is sending a wellbeing survey to a sample of children and young people aged 7–17. Selected participants receive a letter with a QR code and personal login code, while responses are said to be processed anonymously. Results will inform officials and politicians; the survey does not automatically include every child in the municipality.

What happened?

Letters are being sent during the week to children selected for the survey. Each letter contains instructions, a QR code for the digital questionnaire and a personal login code. Lysio Research is conducting the survey on behalf of Essunga Municipality.

The target group is children aged 7 to 17. Belonging to that age group is not sufficient to participate; the household needs to have received a sample letter. The municipality encourages as many selected participants as possible to respond so the results better reflect how children and young people experience the municipality.

Location

Essunga, Västra Götalands län

Impact and significance

The stated purpose is to understand children's wellbeing and give decision-makers better evidence. A child-focused survey can reveal experiences not captured in an adult questionnaire. At the same time, results come from a sample and should later be presented with response rate, question wording and method so they can be interpreted properly.

A personal code controls access, but the municipality says answers themselves are processed anonymously. Families should use the link in the received letter and contact the named survey provider if they have questions.

Background

The survey is separate from the adult residents' survey that the municipality plans for next year. The current mailing should therefore not be used to infer the views of the entire adult population.

A children's perspective can inform several municipal areas, but the notice does not identify particular decisions that will change or state when results will be published. Nor does it promise that every preference will become an implementation decision.

Latest update

Sample letters are now being sent. The next useful update will be participation, method and results, and how the municipality uses the evidence. Adult residents are expected to receive a separate opportunity through next year's survey.
