What happened?
Södertälje Municipality published an initial analysis of participation in the parliamentary election on Monday. The municipality's total rate is provisionally 72.3%. According to the summary, no electoral district is below 55%. Four of the five districts that still have the lowest turnout nevertheless show increases of 7.9–15.3 percentage points.
The most notable changes concern Ronna, Geneta, Hovsjö, Brunnsäng and Fornhöjden, where rises of 9–17 percentage points are reported. These figures compare participation with the previous parliamentary election; they do not describe support for any party.

Impact and significance
Differences between parts of the municipality therefore appear to be narrowing. Södertälje and local associations carried out participation initiatives in several areas, but the municipality itself stresses that turnout reflects many factors: party mobilisation, trust, the composition of the electorate and public information. The results therefore show a change alongside the initiatives, not proof that one measure alone caused it.
Higher participation broadens the basis for representation, although the municipal rate remains below the provisional national level of around 80%.
