Gnesta's election committee conducts the Wednesday count, including ballots that did not reach polling stations on election day. The county administrative board then continues the final count and establishes the municipal council result. Only then are both the seat allocation and the elected members and substitutes confirmed.
The council has 31 elected seats. It is the municipality's highest decision-making body and decides matters including objectives, budget, municipal tax, major investments and political organisation.
