Arena Grosvad campsite to be renovated with seven cabins and a new service building

Author: WUA RadarPublished: Updated: Reviewed:

Finspång is proceeding with the renovation of Arena Grosvad campsite after obtaining planning permission. Four round cabins will move from Lotorp to join the three already on site. All seven will be refurbished, one made accessible, and the old service building replaced with a new one containing a kitchen, showers, toilets and laundry facilities.

What happened?

The campsite closed for renovation in 2023, but the start took longer than planned. The municipality now says the plans and planning permission are ready and the project can proceed. The three existing round cabins will be joined by four of the same type relocated from Lotorp. One of the seven will be adapted for improved accessibility.

Pitches for motorhomes and caravans will remain. The current service building will be demolished and replaced by a modern facility with essential guest services. Accessibility is also included in the design of that building.

Location

Finspång, Östergötlands län

Impact and significance

The renovation concerns both accommodation capacity and practical standards on the site. The grounds and green areas will be reviewed and a nature trail created. The municipality's aim is a more welcoming and functional setting within Arena Grosvad's wider sport and recreation area.

The campsite covers about 15,000 square metres. Nearby facilities include swimming and adventure pools, a gym, exercise trails, an outdoor gym, skate park, disc golf, and walking and cycling routes. An improved campsite may support longer visits, but the source gives no forecast for guest numbers or tourism revenue.

Background

The municipality places the project within a period of other construction and industrial expansion in Finspång, arguing that a growing place also needs attractive recreation settings. This is the municipality's development assessment rather than a verified economic outcome.

Four cabins are being reused through relocation from Lotorp, while three are already at the campsite. The notice does not state a project budget, contractor or exact completion date.

Latest update

Planning permission is in place and the project is moving from planning towards delivery. The municipality has described the renovation but has not published an exact reopening date. Anyone planning a camping visit should therefore check current operating status before travelling. The start of guest bookings is also unknown.
