As schools reopen, Nacka municipality is reminding drivers to pay extra attention to children in traffic. It also describes work on speed controls, raised crossings and wider pavements around schools. New preschool-class pupils receive road-safety material, and a two-week walking and cycling challenge will be held in the autumn.
Four compulsory schools in Falköping have spent a year working on reading, vocabulary and Swedish as a second language with researchers from Stockholm University. The municipality says teachers have seen broader use of words and improved test results. The initiative is now being expanded to all pupils from preschool class through Year 3.
Älvsbyn municipality has published an expectations document for its compulsory schools. It explains what schools, pupils and guardians can expect from one another and is intended to provide a shared basis for safety, study conditions and learning. The document is connected to changes in education legislation that took effect on 1 August 2026.
Falköping’s new cultural meeting place, Kulturstället Ryttaren, opened on Stora torget on 15 August. After speeches and a ribbon-cutting, visitors entered the renovated premises. The venue will offer creative activities, exhibitions and stage programmes, including an open workshop every Saturday.
The Public Health Agency of Sweden says five measles cases were reported in Sweden during August 2026. Three of the people had attended the Urkult festival in Västernorrland on 30 July–1 August. Festival visitors should watch for symptoms and call healthcare services before going to a clinic.
Munkfors municipality has begun a three-year partnership with the Swedish National Agency for Education, Skolverket, to develop quality in preschools, schools and after-school centres. Work will move from an initial analysis and action plan to implementation and follow-up. Staff will join analysis groups, while children’s and pupils’ views will be gathered through focus groups and interviews.
Tingsryd municipality will offer early voting in all seven localities before Sweden’s parliamentary, regional and municipal elections on 13 September 2026. Early voting starts on 26 August and the premises are intended to be accessible. Väckelsång will also test a digital electoral register, but voters will cast their ballots in the usual way.
Sweden’s Left Party has presented five healthcare priorities. They include more state funding from 2027, higher pay in female-dominated care occupations, shorter working hours, opposition to corporatisation and a halt to further privatisation. Essunga municipality is looking for workplaces able to host Year 9 students for work experience in weeks 40 and 41. Around 40 students need placements each week. The suggested hours are 08:30–15:00, although other schedules can be stated, and employers may offer one or both weeks. Responses are requested by Wednesday 19 August.
