Gällö's lower-secondary and younger primary pupils, together with its after-school programme, are due to move into new premises around Christmas 2026 under the municipality's current plan. Upper-primary pupils face a longer stay in temporary classrooms. Construction is continuing alongside teaching, requiring several moves and interim arrangements.
What happened?
Upper-primary pupils began the term in a modular building beside Kronvägen. They are expected to remain there until Christmas 2027. Their future classrooms are in the building currently used by lower-secondary pupils, which needs extensive renovation.
The lower-secondary pupils must therefore move first. Their new premises are expected to be ready by Christmas 2026, on the upper floor of the new building where the former assembly hall and dining room stood. The kitchen, younger primary pupils and after-school programme are also scheduled to move into the new section around the same time.

Impact and significance
The schedule means different pupil groups will change their everyday surroundings at different stages. Once the younger pupils and after-school programme leave the red single-storey building, it will be demolished to make room for a new schoolyard. The buildings known as the eko-hus and the mittemellanhus, the former hotel, are also due to be removed later. Staff parking and a pick-up and drop-off area are planned in their respective places.
Renovation also affects craft lessons because the usual rooms in the lower-secondary building will be unavailable. Temporary woodwork and sewing classrooms are being prepared during the autumn in the yellow building below the bus station, previously used by the after-school programme. They are intended for use during 2027.
Background
The library has a separate opening schedule. The school and public library is due to move into the new building at the turn of the year but expects to need a few months to get organised. Opening in its new premises is therefore planned for spring 2027. In this case, moving in does not mean opening immediately to visitors.
Latest update
According to the 7 September progress report, all pupils should be in their new premises during the spring term of 2028. Schoolyard work will still remain afterwards. An interim schoolyard is being planned for breaks during the transition; its layout and the elements that can be reused have not yet been settled.
