Following a trial in municipal kitchens, all Leksand employees will gain access to the KIA app for reporting incidents, risks and positive workplace factors. One group of eight kitchen employees reported around 20 cases and several were addressed directly. The experience shows more reporting but is not a statistical evaluation of accident rates.
What happened?
During the spring, all municipal kitchens tested mobile reporting of workplace incidents. Staff previously had to use a computer, which kitchen management says often prevented reports from being made. The app allows a risk or injury to be recorded where the work happens and lets the employee receive feedback when it is handled.
Eight employees working at Solhem, Insjön school and two preschools submitted around 20 cases during the period. Direct actions included purchasing magnetic knife holders and holders for cutting discs that had previously been loose in drawers.

Impact and significance
Kitchens contain hot and sharp equipment, heavy lifting and periods of intense activity. Lowering the threshold for reporting observations may allow a team to remove hazards before someone is hurt. The trial also encouraged a 'KIA safari', where staff walk through the workplace actively looking for risks.
The suggestion that injuries may have been prevented is a workplace assessment. The article does not provide comparable accident figures before and after the trial, so an exact effect cannot be established.
Background
The trial is part of the 'Ett friskt och hållbart arbetsliv' project, co-financed by the European Social Fund. ESF contributes up to SEK 11 million and the total project volume is around SEK 18 million including municipal co-financing. It runs until December 2028. These amounts concern the entire project, not only the kitchen app trial.
KIA can be used for both adverse events and positive workplace factors, making it broader than an accident form.
Latest update
The municipality is now moving from a defined trial to making the app available to all employees. Further follow-up will need to show whether use is sustained, how quickly cases are addressed and whether workplace risks or injuries decline over time.
