The Trappes racist attack reached a specific investigative milestone on 3 November: France’s national counterterrorism prosecutor said that 30 victims had been identified. That establishes a documented count of identified victims at this stage. It does not settle every circumstance of the attack or any individual’s criminal responsibility.
Le Monde reported that Kevin T. was placed under formal investigation on 29 October. National counterterrorism prosecutor Olivier Christen said on RTL that the acts had probably been extensively prepared since late summer or early September. That is the prosecutor’s account at this point in the investigation, rather than a finding by a court.
Libération also reported that the weapon had allegedly been bought covertly. According to the newspaper, the prosecutor said that sport-shooting practice mentioned in the case did not, on its own, make it possible to “potentially identify a target”. On the supplied excerpts alone, the exact meaning of that wording and the evidence behind it cannot be taken further.
The prosecutor also said that procedures linked to violent radical-right activity have grown in recent years. BFMTV reported PNAT figures showing 23 procedures in that category among 681 handled since its creation in 2019, alongside 480 relating to jihadism and four to violent radical-left activity. Those procedure figures warrant serious public attention. They are neither automatic proof in the Trappes case nor a verdict on a broader political constituency.
The editorial point is therefore narrow but important: identifying 30 victims and placing a suspect under formal investigation are documented advances, but they should not erase the line between the prosecutor’s current account and a future judicial decision. The next development to watch is what the proceedings can actually establish about the alleged preparation and individual responsibility.
