The Bucharest Court of Appeal has annulled Wiz Khalifa’s conviction, but it has not ended the case. That is the key point in Tuesday’s ruling: the nine-month custodial sentence and the warrant to enforce it can no longer operate on the basis of the decision that was set aside, while the DIICOT prosecutors’ appeal is due to be reheard on 12 November.
Digi24 and HotNews reported that the Bucharest Court of Appeal admitted the artist’s annulment challenge, set aside the Constanța Court of Appeal decision of 18 December 2025, and cancelled the enforcement warrant issued by the Constanța Tribunal. The case had been transferred to Bucharest after the High Court decided it should be heard away from the Constanța court.
This is a meaningful procedural reversal, not merely an informal pause in a sentence. The conviction decision and its enforcement warrant have been annulled. On the supplied evidence, it would therefore be inaccurate to describe the nine-month prison term as still being enforced.
The converse claim, that Wiz Khalifa has definitively escaped liability, is not supported either. The court scheduled a rehearing of the DIICOT prosecutor’s appeal for 12 November. The reports say arrangements are being made for the defendant to participate by video link, but they provide no outcome from that future hearing.
The case stems from prosecutors’ allegation that, on 13 July 2024 at the Beach, Please! festival in Costinești, the artist unlawfully possessed cannabis for personal consumption. The Constanța Tribunal had initially imposed a 3,600 lei criminal fine. Prosecutors appealed, and the Constanța Court of Appeal later imposed the nine-month sentence that has now been set aside.
The strongest reading is also the most restrained one: annulling the earlier ruling removes its present legal effect, but the supplied material does not establish that the allegation has vanished or that a new decision cannot follow. The next concrete development to watch is the DIICOT appeal rehearing on 12 November.
